According to the facebook page for "John Mitchum's Unabashed Love of Country, Cowboys, and God" CD, "John Mitchum was a troubadour in the fullest sense of the word. He was an actor, writer, singer and storyteller. He lived to make people smile. It didn't hurt if they learned something either."
His daughter, Cindy Mitchum Azbill, joined us today to tell us about this project. John Mitchum lived a very interesting life, and along the way wrote lots of poems and songs about his experiences. When he passed away, she was strongly encouraged by Ernest Borgnine and A.C. Lyles to put together a project in which her father's friends would all record his poems for a tribute CD. According to Cindy, Ernest Borgnine told her, "The Country deserves, no NEEDS to hear John's poetry". Cindy also told us many stories about her father, what it was like seeing her father on her favorite shows growing up, getting to meet his friends and visit sets, and a funny phone encounter with John Wayne!
"John Mitchum's Unabashed Love of Country, Cowboys, and God" CD features 54 of his celebrity colleagues such as Ernest Borgnine, Bruce Boxleitner, Wilford Brimley, Robert DuVall, Jack O'Halloran, and Dick Van Patten.
